FASHION EXPOSED's highly anticipated design awards program, Debut, has unveiled an impressive line up of finalists for the upcoming Melbourne 2011 competition. Since its inception in 2006, Debut has been the launch pad for over 130 young Australian labels, many of which are now well known within the highly competitive fashion industry. Names such as Alexi Freeman, Donna Sgro, Trimapee, Subfusco and Holly Chalmers are just some of the now well know designers who have taken part in Debut over the years.

For the August 28 – 30 competition, twelve budding fashion and accessory designers from across the country will sit before a panel of industry professionals with a view to winning a lucrative prize package including a stand at the next Fashion Exposed trade fair valued at $3,000.

Most importantly however, Debut designers will gain exposure among thousands of professional buyers who share an equally exciting opportunity; a unique preview of the hottest new talent that have differentiated themselves through unique design, innovation and professionalism.

Women’s Apparel and jewellery dominate the selection this season. From Victoria Catherine Leon will present her timeless yet trend driven collection in neutral tones while Shalini Coelho’s elegant collection aims to take women from work to wine with ease.

Sophisticated construction techniques combined with feminine detailing will be evident in collections by Victorian designers Sonya Kraan, Shehzarin Batha (the Corset Queen) and Zoe Sandow and Jessica Yorston under their label Stella Blanche.

From Western Australia label Stepfanie Michelle will feature a beautiful collection inspired by New York Art Deco architecture and moody Van Gogh paintings while Sharka Bosakova from Queensland will present her nature inspired Shadows of your Garden collection. With a passion for slow fashion, from the ACT, Sophia Vardos will show her highly crafted collection of luxurious fabrics while Emma Chilman will explore her passion for the earth via her label Trace.
