Daphne Guinness, Sarah Jessica Parker and model Gisele Bündchen were just some of the names dressed in McQueen designs – either vintage, and designed by Lee Alexander McQueen himself, or by his protégé and now the company's creative director, Sarah Burton.
François-Henri Pinault, CEO of Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR), the luxury goods conglomerate that owns a majority stake in the Alexander McQueen label, was the event's honorary chair – his wife, the actress Salma Hayek, also wore Alexander McQueen.
Anna Wintour (dressed, surprisingly, in Chanel Haute Couture), Colin Firth and Stella McCartney were co-chairs and Madonna and Rihanna both chose to wear the latter's designs. The award for the look of the evening went to two stalwarts of the "dress to impress with a difference" set, however. The designer Marc Jacobs and his CEO, Robert Duffy, both came in traditional tartans as a tribute to the Scottish heritage of a great and much-missed fashion name.
